The Bibi ( Granny ) project is a women’s project that I, Peter Moosbrugger, started. I realized how hopeless and bleak the situation of most women in Tanzania is, especially in the countryside. They are neither valued nor respected by the men and are often only there to cook, work and have children. That hit me really hard. I want and will change the situation of women and strengthen them in their independence. Many young women / girls get pregnant at a young age, then the father often runs away himself and so the women / girls sit there and have no chance of a ("good") future. The young girls are no longer allowed to go back to school as soon as they have a child and the older women have no prospect of work because there is only a very limited amount of things like kindergartens and there is usually no money for it ( who is surprised if you are a single parent ) . Often the women / girls leave the child or children with the grandmother ( if they still exist ) and disappear to start a new life. That's where I come in. I have put together a group of grandmas ( Bibi`s ) and women who exactly fall under this description. There are 3 grandmas and 6 single mothers as well as 2 men. I will help the group through financial support to lease land on which they can grow vegetables in order to support themselves and to earn money. The 2 men will help with the heavy work and facilitate the transport for the group with a motorcycle. Another goal of the group is that the grandmas, who have worked their entire lives anyway, no longer have to do this. You will take care of the children at home and provide advice to the young working women. At the end after the harvest, the entire profit is shared. The project is designed in such a way that the group generates enough money after the harvest that they can make a living from it and can repeat and finance this project themselves in the next season.
The cost of realizing this further heart project will amount to 3900.- euros, which means just 354.- euros per group member for a better life.
